The 1st Annual "Birds at the Feeder contest"

Hi there;
This year I'm going to start a "Birds at the Feeder" contest. This will be part of my site each year.
Most people get real enjoyment by feeding birds in their yards, and having feeders there. Many birds use these feeders and at times, these can be real lifesavers for the birds during tough weather conditions.
To help promote this activity, and to give the birds an edge on fall/winter survival, I am running this contest.

The contest will have 3 categories; Some examples-

A) Best action


B) Most colorful


C) Most humorous or comical situation



Each week (Monday) I will sort through the entries for the past week and pick the best for each category. These 3 pictures will be posted on this journal and stored in a file, for final judging at the contest end.

RULES:

The rules are simple:
1) Only shots of birds at the feeder will be allowed for entry...
- this means you need to have the feeder / or parts of it, the bird on it etc, in the shot.

2) The pictures have to have been taken during the season of 2007 -2008.
Any pictures taken between 01 Dec 2007 and 01 Mar 2008 are eligible for this contest.
Pictures taken before this are not!
So the ones in your picture archives are not acceptable, go out, fill the feeders and take some new ones!

3) Squirrels are cool, but I don't need pics of them... I have my own to deal with....


4) Make the shot interesting, have them landing..eating seeds that you can see in the beak.. be creative, work the composition of the shot.

5) Anyone can enter, no matter what level of skill, where you live, or picture "quality".....This is a world wide contest, for all wild bird lovers!

6) Try to limit the entries to one (1) shot of each bird species for each category,each week. ( you get to judge your shots first).

You can enter as many different bird species pictures each week, as you want, during the contest running time frame.....
So the more pics you enter the better the odds of winning !!

7) How to enter;
Just send me a note with the title of the shot or link to the shot, which category you want it entered under,and I will take it from there....

8) The top 5 pictures, submitted for each category,during the contest, will be the pictures chosen to be judged for the 3 prizes

9) To be fair, only one ( 1 ) prize per entrant...... Sorry

What is the prize?
Grand prize is a Field guide to birds of North America, plus a 12 month sub to deviant.
( to be chosen from the finalists of the 3 categories )
2nd prize, a pair of Vivitar 7x50 binoculars and a 6 month sub to deviant...
3rd prize, a pair of Vivitar 7x50 binoculars and a 3 month sub to deviant ....

The prize winners will be judged from the overall best 15 pictures submitted during the contest,( 5 pictures from each category)

The contest will run from;
01 December 2007 through Midnight, 01 March 2008

Final judging will be done by myself, and 3 really talented wildlife photographers.....

So get those feeders cleaned up, filled and start shooting!!!
